In the meantime, where one door has closed, another has opened. Wake Forest Track & Field is hosting an open meet this weekend against other regional schools. The rugby team was asked to provide some manpower as a fundraising event for the club. Throughout the day, players will be setting hurdles, raking sand pits, dodging flying discus and other helpful jobs to keep the events on schedule. Not only is this rugby’s way of helping other Wake Forest athletic programs, but it is also a great way for players to offset the cost of the team trip next weekend.
Emory University has invited Wake Forest to visit Atlanta next weekend for a friendly match of fifteens. A former Demon Deacon, Ross Hilton, is currently the assistant coach at Emory and presented the idea to his alma mater. We would like to invite all Wake Forest former players, alumni and supporters to cheer on the Demon Deacons as they face Emory at the Old White Rugby Grounds on Saturday, March 29th at 9:00AM.
Following the morning action, both teams will be tailgating at Kennesaw State University prior to the Rugby World Cup Qualifier match. Thanks to the anonymous donation of a generous alumnus, current players will have the chance to cheer on the USA Eagles as they battle it out with Uruguay for a spot in the 2015 Rugby World Cup. Watching a live international match will be an incredible experience for younger players to see some quality rugby while enjoying a weekend with fellow teammates away from campus.
As the temperatures slowly rise, the spring season is reaching is peak and the team is preparing for the final few weeks of competition. Following the Atlanta trip, the team will be hosting the first ever Intramural Flag Rugby Tournament, followed by two more conference sevens tournaments to close out the season. More information will be released on these events soon.
